DER CHOR SINGT VON WEST NACH OST.“ – Der Orientexpress fuhr in den Jahren zwischen den Weltkriegen von Paris über die Schweiz nach Istanbul und brachte damit die westliche Welt an den Bosporus. Diese Reise wollen wir wieder aufleben lassen, indem wir einerseits Musik aus dem Okzident und dem Orient zusammenbringen, andererseits selber eine Reise nach Istanbul antreten und dort in den ehrwürdigen ausgedienten Bahnhofshallen von Haydarpasa am 31. Mai 2014 um 19 Uhr ein Konzert geben. Der Chor Luzern führt Werke auf, welche die abendländischen Wurzeln der Chormusik widerspiegeln. Dabei berücksichtigen wir Literatur, die im ganzen Westen – vom ehemaligen Konstantinopel bis nach England – mehrfach vertont wurde. Inhaltlich sind die Texte auf den Abend, die Nacht, das Dunkle und den Tod ausgerichtet; dies aber immer mit der Hoffnung auf einen Morgen, das Licht, ein neues Leben. DER CHOR SINGS FROM WEST TO EAST” -During the years between the two World Wars, the Orient Express, which ope rated between Paris and Istanbul and passed through Switzerland, brought the Western world to the Bosporus. We would like to revive this journey in two ways: on the one hand, by bringing together music from the Orient and the Occident and, on the other hand, by making the journey to Istanbul ourselves and giving a concert there in the venerable, disused concourses of the railway station. Der Chor Luzern performs works which embody the Western roots of choral music. We include musical interpretations of literature, which has been set to music repeatedly throughout the western world from Istanbul, formerly known as Constantinople, to England. With regard to the context, the texts are oriented towards the evening and night, darkness and death – but this is always accompanied by the hope of morning, light, and a new life. Meduoteran plays with contrasts by making Oriental music on their tra ditional instruments. This music from their native land, which is cheerful and upbeat, merges with modern, improvisatory elements, which allows for orna mental and secular nuances to permeate through their sound, as well as the dawn of a new day.
