WHAT THE KITCHEN GUERILLAS ARE DOING ?
We are a mobile kitchen unit. We hijack restaurants, sailing ships, country guesthouses, construction sites, cabooses and other extraordinary locations from Hamburg to Paris. We offer culinary delight combined with none- everyday lifeatmosphere. In line with our slogan ‘IN FOOD WE TRUST’ we provide our guests with an unparalleled transparency around our food. We awarely refrain from oversupplying. By utilising essential substances only, we shall ensure to keep things as simple as possible, always scouting our seasonal products directly from the local grower.
With our culinary dinner attack we bring together our guests’ and supplier’s worlds onto one big table to become part of our kitchen. With our huge variety of different meats, fresh herbs and our domestic vegetables we are offering a food sensation and particular entertainment for everyone.
Our aim is to rediscover the culture origin of cooking and move it back into the centre of social life. In the long run we want Kitchen Guerilla to go from regional to international ventures and have our name stand as a symbol for quality and trustworthiness in culinary culture.
WHAT IS OUR FIRST ACT IN ISTANBUL?
Turkey’s rich gastronomy and culinary background dating back to thousands of years and a vast number of civilizations has encouraged us to contribute this world cuisine with our interculinary artistic experience to hand and spread its long earned placement world wide.
As a mobile kitchen unit, first of all we were inspired of the incredibly multi-dimensional street food culture of Istanbul. So the rapidly growing guerilla social network gave us the possibility to find the right place and partners to start up with our acts in Turkey in a very short time slot. For our first event taking place on 30.09.2011, we will capture the premises of Manzara Istanbul in the historical Suriye Pasaji of the Beyoglu distirct, one of the most cosmopolitan parts of the city. We will convert the space into a street food live exhibition, where we will present the best street food dealers of town, retouching their work by using the seasonal products of small local producers. As unusual as always the whole act will be more than a „gastronomic only“ experience. We will merge again the artistic and the culinary way.

THE LOCATION: SURIYE SALON
Initiated in November 2008, Manzara Istanbul organises and curates exhibitions in their own premises. In addition to the holiday apartments, we use a spacious flat in the Suriye Pasajı on Istiklal Caddesi and an exhibition space in Tatar Beyi Sokak. In the holiday apartments we realise a series of solo exhibitions. We invite local and international artists to reflect on this specific situation “ar t and living spaces” by positioning already existing works in these rooms or by creating new works for this context. The idea of presenting art in living spaces is so close to decoration that the respective positioning of art determines whether “art should have a rather decorative or more theoretical function and how coherent the artwork interacts with the place.” The artworks are part of the apartments for a couple of month.

Ansel Mullins works in the field of real estate and historic restoration. He also hosts a weekly radio show, Soul Sendikasi (www.soulsendikasi.com), which is broadcast in Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir and Eskisehir. Yigal Schleifer is a freelance journalist who was based in Istanbul between 2002 and 2010, where he worked as correspondent for the Christian Science Monitor and the Eurasianet website. His work has appeared in the New York Times, Washington Post, Times (London), Toronto Star and other publications. He is also one of the authors of the 2009 Fodor’s guide to Turkey. Currently located in Washington, DC, Yigal writes Istanbul Calling, a Turkish news blog.
THE ARTISTS: PER SCHUMANN
“Floraltopia ” from Humans ,flowers , the dangerous potato desease and guerilla hearts. Hamburg Artist Per Schumann will bring his mobiletable-kitchen-cart that he developed in Istanbul inspired by all the mobile market carts, Per Schumann is working since several years on the picture of building up temporarily Gardens or “oasis” in big Citys (such as NY, San Francisco, Berlin, London, etc. ) In cooperation with Malte Zacharias he did several events all over the world that they call ” Gartenstudioinstallation” where gallerys, empty spaces or other locations where transformed into an improvised Kitchen Garden space, people can come together cook together and make lectures or exhibitions or other conversation.

ISTANBUL’DA İLK İŞİMİZ NE OLACAK?
Türkiye’nin binlerce sene öncesine ve çok sayıda medeniyete dayanan zengin gastronomi ve mutfak geçmişi, bizi; kendi artistik mutfak sanatları deneyimimiz ve dünya mutfağının katkısı ile, çoktan hak etmiş olduğu dünya çapında bir yere getirmek konusunda cesaretlendirmiştir.
Gezgin bir mutfak olarak, öncelikle Istanbul’un çok boyutlu ve olağanüstü sokak yemek kültüründen etkilendik. Bundan dolayı kısa zamanda büyüyen sosyal gerilla ağımız, kısa zamanda Türkiye’de doğru yeri ve ortakları bulma imkânını sağladı.30.09.2011’de yer alacak ilk etkinliğimiz için şehrin en kozmopolit yerlerinden Beyoğlu’ndaki tarihi Suriye Pasajında yer alan Manzara İstanbul’u ele geçirmişbulunmaktayız. Bu mekânı canlı bir sokak yiyecekleri alanına çevireceğiz ve burada kentin en iyi sokak yiyecekleri satıcılarını, yaptıkları işleri, yerel üreticilerin mevsimsel ürünleri ile düzenleyerek size tanıtacağız. Her zamanki gibi, burada yaşanan ve yapılanlar size sadece `gastronomik’ olmaktan başka bir deneyim yaşatacak. Biz yine sanatı ve mutfağı birleştireceğiz.

MEKAN: SURIYE PASAJ
Kasım 2008’de hayata geçen ManzaraIstanbul kendine ait olan farklı mekanlarda sergiler düzenlemektedir. Bu amaçla tatil apartları dışında, İstiklal Caddesi tarafında Suriye Pasajında geniş bir daireyi ve Tatar Beyi Sokak’da bir sergi alanını kullanılmaktadır. Tatil apartlarında bir seri solo sergi gerçekleşmektedir. Yerli ve yabancı sanatçılar hâlihazırdaki eserlerini bu alanlarda sergileyerek ‘sanat ve yaşam alanları’ fikrini ifade etmeye veya bu kavram için yeni eserler yapmaya davet edilirler. Sanatın yaşanan mekanlarda teşhir edilmesi iç dekorasyona o kadar yakın bir olgudur ki, sanatın ilgili pozisyonu ‘sanatın fonksiyonunun dekoratif veya teorik mi olmasının ve mekan iyi uyumunu’ (J. Stahl) belirler. Bu sanat eserleri birkaç ay apartlarda teşhir edilirler.

SANATÇI: PER SCHUMANN
‘Floraltopia’ İnsanlar, çiçekler, tehlikeli patates hastalığı ve gerilla kalplerinden. Hamburg’lu sanatçı Per Schumann, İstanbul’daki sokak satıcılarının el arabalarından esinlenerek geliştirdiği kendi mobil-masa-mutfak el arabasını getirecek. Per Schumann birkaç seneden beri New York, San Francisco, Berlin ve Londra gibi büyük şehirlerde geçici Bahçeler ve ‘oasis’ resmi yaratma işi ile uğraşmaktadır. Malte Zacharias ile yaptığı işbirliğiyle dünya çapında birçok mekanı ” Gartenstudio-installation” adı altında insanların biraraya gelip, yemek yapıp, sanatsal etkinliklerini paylaştıkları doğaçalma bir bahçe mutfağa dönüştürdü.
